# Connect an Instrument
PhotosynQ for Android connects to a MultispeQ through Bluetooth. The same connection is used for Projects, Quick Measurements, and MultispeQ QC.
# Before connecting
- Charge the MultispeQ and phone.
- Turn on the MultispeQ by holding its power button for approximately five seconds.
- Enable Bluetooth on the phone.
- Allow PhotosynQ to access Nearby Devices or Bluetooth when Android requests permission.

# Select a MultispeQ
- Select the MultispeQ icon in the upper-right corner of the app.
- Select Scan Devices and wait for the nearby-device list to refresh.
- Look under Nearby Devices for powered MultispeQs detected during the scan.
- Expand Known Devices when reconnecting an instrument that this phone previously paired with.
- Match the final characters of the device ID shown in the app to the identifier on the MultispeQ.
- Select the instrument.
- If Android requests a pairing PIN, enter
1234. - Wait for the paired-device screen before starting a measurement or QC test.

Previously paired instruments remain available under Known Devices, even when they are not currently powered on. A known device must still be on and available before the app can connect to it.

The paired-device screen shows the selected instrument, device ID, firmware, battery status, power control, and Choose Another Device action.

The instrument remains paired with Android. On later uses, turn it on and select it from the list; the PIN normally is not requested again.
# Change instruments
Open the MultispeQ connection screen and select Choose Another Device. Select the intended device from the list. QC reports are associated with device IDs, so changing instruments does not mix their reports.
# Troubleshooting
- Confirm that the MultispeQ is charged and powered on.
- Keep only the intended MultispeQ powered on while pairing.
- Confirm PhotosynQ has Nearby Devices or Bluetooth permission.
- Select Scan Devices again after a few seconds.
- If another phone is connected, disconnect it or restart the MultispeQ before connecting from this phone.
- If the app remains on Connecting, return to the device list and select the instrument again.
- A very low MultispeQ battery can cause an unstable Bluetooth connection.
QC after connecting
After establishing a connection, run MultispeQ QC before collecting field measurements.
